Letter from GlobalPlatform’s Executive Director

As GlobalPlatform’s fiscal year 2021 draws to a close, we will soon publish an annual report to celebrate key accomplishments and the technical initiatives members are driving to bring trust to digital services and devices. This annual report will accompany your renewal invoice for fiscal 2022 which will begin on October 1. To align with your budget planning, I am pleased to share that membership fees remain unchanged. July saw GlobalPlatform achieve ISO/IEC 17065 certification body accreditation. This highlights the state-of-the-art processes in place across GlobalPlatform’s functional and security certification schemes. Read more below.

Looking forward, primary sponsor and Full member Winbond and I are excited about our upcoming Taiwan workshop in October, exploring IoT security and certified trust. It promises to be a unique opportunity to discover more about standardized secure component technologies, certifications and the latest use cases.

Taiwan workshop: certified trust

On October 5, GlobalPlatform and Winbond will host a free in-person and virtual workshop on the topic of ‘certified trust’.

The workshop will bring together local security experts and GlobalPlatform specialists to provide insight on maximizing the value of standardized secure component technologies and certifications. They will discuss the latest use cases and device security that are building trust in the ecosystem, helping delegates better understand how to improve their own IoT initiatives.

Key contributions and topics include:

  • Keynote addresses from Tung-Yi Chan (Winbond), Dr. Ser-Tsai Lee (Academia Sinica) and Dr. Wei-Bin Lee (Hon Hai Research Institute).
  • GlobalPlatform Technologies and Initiatives with Sebastian Hans and Chris Steck (GlobalPlatform), Ilia Stolov (Winbond), as well as representatives from Arm and Oracle.
  • 5G IoT Security Use Cases from Dr. T.C. Wu (Telecom Technology Center), Dr. Cally Ko (Delta Electronics, and Jean-Francois Gros (GSMA).
  • SESIP Certification with Gil Bernabeu (GlobalPlatform) and Carlos Serratos (SGS Brightsight).

NEWS: GlobalPlatform achieves ISO 17065 accreditation

GlobalPlatform has been accredited as an ISO/IEC 17065 compliant certification body. The accreditation, received from the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation, gives tangible evidence of the impartiality, competence, confidentiality, consistent operation and openness of GlobalPlatform as a certification body.

This new version of GlobalPlatform Card Specification Amendment B (RAM over HTTP) introduces support for two new features: TLS 1.3 and DNS Resolution. Usage of the TLS 1.3 protocol enhances the overall security of the Remote Administration Session, while usage of DNS Resolution allows relying on multiple Remote Administration Servers, improving success rate and performances of remote administration.
