Letter from GlobalPlatform’s Executive Director

GlobalPlatform is evolving in parallel with market requirements. This has encompassed changes to our value proposition and organizational structure, including the introduction of the new TPS Committee, and developments to our branding, including our new visual identity, newsletter, and most recently, website!

The new, responsive site features existing GlobalPlatform content, plus visitors can now read use cases illustrating how GlobalPlatform technology is applied in the real world.

I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in the development of the new site and contributed to its launch. Our visual identity has evolved but our core principles remain the same – a continued commitment to protecting our digital world, fostering collaboration and open ecosystems, and empowering stakeholders to deliver innovative digital services while providing greater security, privacy, simplicity and convenience for users.

The sponsorship kit for ‘Security in our Connected World’ is nowavailable.

The 2017 event was our largest seminar to date, with over 200 delegates from 85 companies representing 13 different countries. This year will again provide a key platform for CEOs, CTOs and influential industry players to network and discuss security trends impacting digital services and devices.

GlobalPlatform secures biometric authentication and enriches trusted user interaction

The functionality of the GlobalPlatform Trusted User Interface (Trusted UI) APIs has been extended. This month Mobile Payments Today, Biometric Update and the Cyberwire featured the announcement that GlobalPlatform APIs now offer trusted biometric authentication that is secured in the hardware of the device’s Trusted Execution Environment (TEE).

Member content: MediaTek granted TEE security evaluation product certificate

The MediaTek MT6737T is a power-efficient, quad-core smartphone System on Chip (SoC) for the entry-4G market, that creates a secure environment within an Android smartphone. In conjunction with a partner secure OS, MediaTek MT6737T has been granted the GlobalPlatform TEE Security Evaluation Product Certificate; a world first for smartphone SoC.

Member content: FIME first lab & tool qualified by GlobalPlatform for consumer eSIM

FIME is the first to have both its test tool and laboratory qualified by GlobalPlatform in line with the GSMA’s latest consumer eUICC SGP.23 specifications and the SIMalliance Interoperable Profile. FIME is now positioned to support both, M2M and consumer eSIM manufacturers throughout the launch of their eSIM services and solutions.

The completely updated and refreshed training sessions cover the fundamentals of TEE and Secure Element (SE), as well as specialized sessions for Payment / Mobile Contactless, Mobile Identity / Government and IoT Platform Security. New Specification Releases

GlobalPlatform’s Security Task Force has published a new paper explaining the importance of designing devices and services with security at the core. Readers will gain insight into how to achieve security, privacy and integrity with GlobalPlatform secure components, and the added value they offer to devices and services.

This document is intended to give definitions, describe concepts, and gather requirements regarding wearable devices. The intent is to provide the different GlobalPlatform committees and working groups with some inputs to extend their document portfolio (configurations, APIs, access control mechanism, etc.) to include support for wearables.
