January 2020 Newsletter

Letter from GlobalPlatform’s Executive Director

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all GlobalPlatform members a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. Thank you for your strong support last year, and for the many contributions you will make in 2020.  We genuinely appreciate it!

Building on a successful 2019, we are already looking forward to our Spring Meetings, which will take place the week of March 30 in Austin, Texas. Please save the dates!

Since the last newsletter, we announced our estimate of GlobalPlatform-compliant TEE shipment figures, caught up with GlobalPlatform Secretary / Treasurer, Stéphanie El Rhomri to learn more about her vision for the organization, and released several new documents for member and public review. Additionally, we announced the results of our Board of Directors election – you can find out more below.

And finally, a reminder that we have created a 20th anniversary animation to celebrate this milestone accomplishment. You can check out the animation by visiting our YouTube channel.

SE IoT Workshop

On Thursday, 27 February, GlobalPlatform will co-host with Oracle, a free-to-attend technical workshop, arranged to coincide with Embedded World in Nuremburg.

The day will be split into three sections. The first will offer a high-level update on both GlobalPlatform SE and Java Card technology.  The second part of the workshop will explore the applicability of these technologies for IoT. The final part will involve technical use cases, presentations and demonstrations including the following topics:

  • Multi-cloud authentication and communication using Java Card
  • On-boarding technologies such as DLOA and MUD files

1 Billion GlobalPlatform-Compliant TEEs Shipped in 2018

In December we announced that over 1 billion GlobalPlatform-compliant Trusted Execution Environment (TEE)-enabled processors were estimated to be shipped for the smartphone market in 2018, representing a 50 percent year-on-year increase.

“The GlobalPlatform-compliant TEE is becoming the de facto choice for smartphone manufacturers because of the security and flexibility it offers,” explains GlobalPlatform’s Technical Director, Gil Bernabeu.
