Precise Biometrics Joins GlobalPlatform

03 September 2008 – Precise Biometrics, one of the world’s leading specialists in fingerprint recognition technology, has joined GlobalPlatform, the international smart card specification body, in order to contribute to the association’s match-on-card* biometrics activity.

Joining as an Observer Member, Precise Biometrics’ experts will participate in GlobalPlatform’s Government Task Force, contributing to the development of a white paper which will discuss the current industry standardization effort for biometrics and GlobalPlatform’s value proposition for biometric match-on-card applications. Representatives from Precise Biometrics will also have the opportunity to participate in the association’s Advisory Council meetings and, in turn, track the work of GlobalPlatform’s technical committees and influence the direction of its Task Force initiatives.

Jonas Andersson, Vice President Business Development at Precise Biometrics, said: “As match-on-card becomes an established part of the smart card market it is clear that standardization is needed. Precise Biometrics regards GlobalPlatform as the most equipped organization to drive forward an efficient and successful program to achieve interoperability and standardization within this area. We believe working within the GlobalPlatform member framework will help us create a neutral, industry-wide infrastructure for biometric smart card deployment.”

Kevin Gillick, Executive Director of GlobalPlatform, adds: “Precise Biometrics is a key player in the rapidly developing biometrics industry and a welcome addition to our growing membership. It is important to view biometrics as an integral part of the smart card infrastructure and its security architecture, which makes the smart card truly personal. Having the specialized knowledge of this team on board will enable us to remain a leading forum for exchanging and extending current knowledge in this area and provide further depth to our members’ understanding of the role biometrics can play in securing smart card applications.”
