GlobalPlatform Updates Test Suite in Continuing Support for GSMA Embedded SIM Specification

Qualified laboratories, test tools and products available to facilitate compliance and interoperability within the M2M ecosystem

27 June 2016 – GlobalPlatform has released an updated test suite to verify the compliance of embedded UICC (eUICC) products in line with the GSMA’s recently updated Embedded SIM Specification v3.1. GlobalPlatform’s publication of the eUICC Test Specification (v3.1) Compliance Test Suite v2.0 continues the organization’s close cooperation with the GSMA to create the compliance infrastructure needed to qualify test tools and laboratories, and manage the registration and qualification of eUICC products.

The GSMA released v3.1 of its Embedded SIM Specification in May 2016. The specification provides a standard mechanism for the remote provisioning and management of machine-to-machine (M2M) connections, allowing initial operator subscriptions to be provisioned ‘over the air’ (OTA), and subsequent OTA changes of subscription from one operator to another. The latest version of the specification introduces an interoperable standardized subscriber profile, enabling mobile network operators (MNOs) to source eUICC products from multiple vendors while benefiting from a uniform loading and updating method. The result is faster and easier deployment, together with reduced costs.

The associated compliance test suite from GlobalPlatform has now been aligned with both the GSMA SGP.02 Remote Provisioning Architecture for Embedded UICC Technical Specification V3.1 and its SGP.11 Remote Provisioning Architecture for Embedded UICC Test Specification V3.1. Qualification against the test suite enables eUICC providers to demonstrate their product’s compliance to the GSMA’s specification, ensuring interoperability.

Interested parties, such as, SIM Vendors and MNOs, can visit the GlobalPlatform website to source:

  • Tools to test eUICC products during development or prior to deployment;
  • Laboratories across a number of regions worldwide available to perform formal approval testing;
  • Products that have successfully undergone GlobalPlatform qualification.

Test tools currently implementing v2.0 of the compliance test suite are available from: COMPRION, FIME, Galitt and UL Transaction Security. Laboratories qualified to carry out testing are: Applus+, CETECOM, FIME, FIME Korea, UL and UL Korea. Both the tools and laboratories have successfully completed the laboratory training and validation process defined by GlobalPlatform’s Compliance Program.

“The latest version of the GSMA specification further simplifies the process of connecting M2M devices and offers more flexibility for the way in which MNOs will do business in the future,” said Gloria Trujillo, Technology Director, GSMA. “Organizations deploying these devices can trust that the laboratories, test tools and products qualified by GlobalPlatform will ensure full compliance and consistency with the GSMA Embedded SIM Specification.”

“GlobalPlatform’s Compliance Program provides the industry with a baseline to ensure interoperability across multiple markets. By continuing to align with the latest iteration of the GSMA Embedded SIM Specification, we can ensure that the M2M ecosystem is interoperable, stable and flexible as it continues its rapid expansion in the future,” said Gil Bernabeu, Technical Director, GlobalPlatform.
