GlobalPlatform to Launch Industry’s First Dedicated TEE Conference

GlobalPlatform to Launch Industry’s First Dedicated TEE Conference Conference will address the advancing TEE landscape and the value of this technology as a security solution for vertical markets

31 July 2013 – GlobalPlatform, the association which standardizes the management of applications on secure chip technology, is hosting the industry’s first conference which focuses on the advancing trusted execution environment (TEE) landscape. The one-day event, which is being held on Thursday 31 October in Santa Clara, California, offers an insight into the vast opportunities presented by the TEE for the deployment of trusted applications in open environments.

The conference, titled ‘GlobalPlatform Presents the TEE: Next Generation Mobile Security for Today and Tomorrow’ will showcase the value of the TEE – a secure area that resides in the main processor of a mobile device and ensures that sensitive data is stored, processed and protected in a secure environment – as a security solution for different vertical markets including premium content protection, mobile financial services and authentication, as well as enterprise and government.

One of the key takeaways from the conference is for delegates to understand how the TEE is being deployed in real world use cases across a variety of vertical markets. Spencer Stephens, Chief Technology Officer from Sony Pictures Entertainment, will present the keynote address.

“With a growing number of applications requiring additional security to be downloaded onto mobile devices and as the mobile services landscape continues to grow, there is a demand from the industry for the ecosystem to evolve in a standardized manner to ensure global scalability, speed up production time to market and reduce development costs,” explains Kevin Gillick, Executive Director at GlobalPlatform. “GlobalPlatform is taking steps to standardize the technology through the publication of industry specifications and the creation of a security certification program that qualifies the security level of a given TEE implementation. This promotes confidence and interoperability while offering assurances to application and software developers, chipset and device manufacturers that a TEE product will perform in line with GlobalPlatform standards.”

The conference – which will be of interest to service providers (including financial institutions, remote content distributors and companies working to develop enterprise solutions), software vendors, device manufacturers, platform providers and mobile network operators – will analyze the entire TEE ecosystem and investigate how it complements the functionality and security of the secure element and rich operating system, offering security and protection for all aspects of the mobile device.

“Many of our members are key stakeholders in the secure mobile services landscape and therefore have an interest in seeing security implemented to a carefully developed and documented standard,” concludes Kevin. "GlobalPlatform therefore decided to host its first conference which not only explores the association’s role in the TEE ecosystem, but offers delegates a unique opportunity to discuss current market status as well as future business requirements and long-term market evolution.”

At the time of this release, GlobalPlatform member, Trustonic is the platinum sponsor of the conference. FIME and Giesecke & Devrient are supporting the conference as gold sponsors, and Gemalto is confirmed as the silver sponsor.
