Digital Media Technology Specialist NAGRA Joins GlobalPlatform

04 December 2013 – NAGRA has become the latest Full Member of GlobalPlatform™, the organization which standardizes the management of applications on secure chip technology. NAGRA, the digital TV division of the Kudelski Group (SIX:KUD.S) and a leading independent provider of content protection and multiscreen television solutions, will support the industry body in establishing a standardized end-to-end framework for securing mobile content.

As a Full Member, NAGRA is able to engage in GlobalPlatform’s Card, Device and System Committees, participate in its market-led task forces and receive organizational and technical voting rights.

NAGRA’s initial focus will be to contribute to GlobalPlatform’s standardization work for the trusted execution environment (TEE)– a secure area that resides in the main processor of a smartphone (or any mobile device) and ensures that sensitive data is stored, processed and protected in a trusted environment – with particular reference to the work of the association’s Premium Content Task Force.

Hervé states that strong collaboration with the other industry leaders within GlobalPlatform is the best way to enable new developments in the area of secure content delivery, while ensuring platform integrity. He concludes: “As an industry, to be successful in the creation of a rich and interoperable content ecosystem, we must ensure that the security we are working towards equals that of the pay-TV sector so that it meets the requirements of the premium content providers. We believe that contributing to GlobalPlatform’s TEE Specifications will help us achieve this.”
