The Digital Wallets Task Force is chaired by Jean-Daniel Aussel from Thales. All GlobalPlatform members are eligible to participate in this group.

Mission

The purpose of the Digital Wallets Task Force (DWTF) is to identify, analyze, and address use cases for digital wallets within and beyond Europe, where GlobalPlatform technologies can play a critical role. This includes, but is not limited to, digital identity, CBDC wallets, business credentials, and any digital wallets requiring high levels of trust, privacy, and security.

Objectives

The objectives of the Task Force include:

• Promote the value of GlobalPlatform technologies (e.g., Secure Element [SE], Trusted Execution Environment [TEE]) to address security and interoperability challenges across all types of digital wallets.
• Analyze and position business and technical requirements for various wallet types, including identity, CBDC, business, and sector-specific wallets.
• Propose and evaluate different deployment and integration models for secure digital wallets.
• Provide input and high-level requirements to the Technical Committees to support the development and enhancement of GlobalPlatform specifications for digital wallets.
• Liaise with external organizations and standards bodies to ensure alignment and promote adoption of secure components as anchors for digital wallet security.
• Monitor and support global initiatives relevant to digital wallets, ensuring that GlobalPlatform's role and technologies are recognized and leveraged.

The deliverables of the Digital Wallets Task Force (DWTF) will consist of high-level requirements and white papers that provide the necessary support to the Technical Committees where any required solutions and specifications will be developed.

Current Priorities

The deployment and adoption of secure digital wallets is rapidly expanding and now includes several use cases from personal identity to Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) wallets, Business Identity Wallets, and other digital wallets that require robust security and privacy measures.

For Digital Identity, the primary focus of the Digital Wallets Task Force (DWTF) is Government Identity within and beyond Europe, to clarify GlobalPlatform’s role in addressing the long-term needs of governments engaged in large-scale ID and e-ID deployments. It will also have an element where global initiatives will be considered and analyzed.

Beyond Digital Identity, the purpose of the Digital Wallets Task Force (DWTF) is to identify, analyze, and address use cases for digital wallets where GlobalPlatform technologies can play a critical role. This includes, but is not limited to, Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) wallets, business credentials wallets, and any digital wallet requiring high levels of trust, privacy, and security.
