Letter from GlobalPlatform’s Executive Director

As we enter the second half of 2020, I would like to start this month’s newsletter by thanking our members for their valuable contributions to the Technical Meetings last week. Of course hosting and attending meetings virtually presents challenges, but it is a testament to the commitment of our membership that we were able to host such successful and enlightening discussions.

In other news, we have just successfully held our China Task Force Virtual Advisory Council meeting and are also delighted to welcome a new member in Xiaomi Mobile.

Our Chairman, Nils Gerhardt, has also written a blog discussing the technical evolution of our organization. You can find out more about this and the aforementioned points below. I hope you enjoy reading!

Thank you for attending the Technical Meetings

From June 17 – July 2 GlobalPlatform hosted its Technical Meetings, laying out the roadmap for the upcoming work of our organization.

Although we were not able to meet face-to-face in Bucharest, I am pleased to report that the virtual meetings didn’t deter interesting and positive discussions and the future of GlobalPlatform is as exciting as ever. I would like to thank all the members that attended and contributed for their commitment and support to our collective mission.

Blog: Nils Gerhardt discusses the technical milestones of our organization

As a follow on from last month’s organizational blog, our Chairman Nils Gerhardt has written about the technical evolution of GlobalPlatform throughout the past 18 months.

Having established itself as a trusted industry voice over the past 20 years, GlobalPlatform has broadened its remit to bring greater trust and functionality to IoT with its IoTopia framework and SESIP methodology. But how do the organization’s initiatives come together?

GlobalPlatform member Winbond to host a ‘Certification for IoT’ Workshop in Taiwan

GlobalPlatform speakers will be providing virtual support for a Taiwan ‘onsite’ IoT workshop on 25 August.

The free workshop will bring together local technology experts from the IoT ecosystem to explore GlobalPlatform contributions to the IoT and the processes behind certification and the value it offers to manufacturers.

With COVID-19 disrupting business travel for many of our members, we recognize that attendance will be difficult for those outside of Taiwan. Therefore, we intend to record the workshop and post presentations to the member website following the event.

Welcoming Xiaomi Mobile

We are delighted to announce that Xiaomi Mobile has joined GlobalPlatform as an observer member.

We look forward to working with Xiaomi Mobile on our Advisory Council and Task Force activities, with a particular focus on our China Task Force.

New Document Releases

This maintenance release introduces minor clarifications as well as the definition of 1 constant following the publication of the Privacy Framework v1.0.1.

This publication has now been made available for public and member download.

Specifications Under Review

The next version of the Secure Channel Protocol 10 (SCP10), which was previously contained in Annex F of the Card Specification, is specified in this new Amendment L. It will contain changes in the cryptographic mechanisms related to its upgrade to the latest version of PKCS#1 and its upgrade from DES to AES.

This document has been made available to solicit comments from the membership of GlobalPlatform. Please share comments by Friday, 17 July 2020.
