Letter from GlobalPlatform’s Executive Director

February will see GlobalPlatform host an SE IoT Workshop in Nuremberg alongside our Prime Sponsor Oracle and Supporting Sponsors STMicroelectronics and Able Device. The event is free to attend but spaces are limited so register now to avoid disappointment!

At the Fall meeting in Madrid, we made the decision to consolidate the Consumer IoT and Industrial IoT charters into one encompassing IoT Task Force. You can read more on this below.

Looking ahead, we encourage members to start making preparations to attend the GlobalPlatform Spring meetings, taking place on March 30 in Austin, Texas. View the GlobalPlatform calendar for the latest information.

GlobalPlatform hosts SE IoT Workshop in Nuremberg

On Thursday February 27, we are co-hosting a free-to-attend technical workshop, to educate delegates on the value of Secure Elements (SEs) for IoT deployments.

Beginning with an overview of the SE itself and the latest SE technologies for IoT, the workshop will be focused on use cases and demonstrations which expose key security and implementation challenges, and how the SE can be used to solve them.

It will feature presentations and demonstrations on:

  • GlobalPlatform SEs
  • Java Card for IoT
  • Multi-cloud authentication and communication using Java Card
  • On-boarding technologies - DLOA and MUD files
  • Device connectivity based on SIM application engine
  • GSMA’s IoT SAFE service
  • Tamper-Resistant Elements
  • Attestation

We would like to thank our speakers, as well as Prime Sponsor Oracle, and Supporting Sponsors STMicroelectronics and Able Device, for helping to make the workshop possible.

PODCAST: Industrial Talk’s Scott MacKenzie speaks to GlobalPlatform

I caught up with Scott Mackenzie at IoT Solutions World Congress, to talk IoT security and what needs to happen to make it easier for connected device manufacturers to implement best-practice cybersecurity.

The podcast was recorded live from the event in Barcelona. You may remember, this is where GlobalPlatform publicly launched the IoTopia initiative.

GlobalPlatform merges Consumer IoT and Industrial IoT Task Forces

At the Fall meeting in Madrid, The Board of Directors took the decision to consolidate the consumer and industrial IoT charters into one IoT Task Force, responsible for identifying, defining and evaluating the business and technical requirements of new and emerging products.

Having a single IoT Task Force will make it easier for members to stay connected to discussions and work items, as well as to simplify the Task Force’s interaction with the IoTopia (as well as other) committees.

The IoT Task Force will now be co-chaired by Nils Gerhardt (G+D Mobile Security) and Sebastian Hans (Oracle).
