Letter from GlobalPlatform’s Executive Director

It has been a busy and productive start to 2018 for GlobalPlatform. We have published several new technical documents, including two new white papers on implementing FIDO authentication solutions using GlobalPlatform technologies and a specification that enables MNO services to easily access sensitive functions from device operating systems.

In addition, our Technical Director Gil Bernabeu has authored the latest installment of NFC World’s What’s New in Payments report series, that discusses some of the key security issues impacting today’s dynamic device landscape

What’s New in Payments?

Technical Director Gil Bernabeu has authored the latest installment of NFC World’s What’s New in Payments report series.

The report sets out GlobalPlatform’s vision for the future of payments in today’s increasingly diverse device landscape, and why industry collaboration is key. Gil discusses how the proliferation of IoT and connected devices has impacted the payments industry, and offers guidance on how to manage some of today’s real security challenges.

Realizing FIDO Authentication Solutions with GlobalPlatform Technologies

We are pleased to announce the release of new white papers that provide guidance on realizing FIDO implementations using GlobalPlatform technologies.

GlobalPlatform has now published two white papers: a technical overview to such an implementation and an overview of the practical business considerations involved for markets including banking and finance, retail, government, telecoms and enterprise.

Notice of Committee Merger

As part of GlobalPlatform’s restructure, we have now completed the merger of the Systems Committee into the Secure Element (SE) Committee.

Please also note that current activities from the Systems Committee, including the TSM Working Group, have been moved to the SE Committee. The TSM Working Group will now manage on-going Systems Compliance activities.

All organizational changes will be reflected on the public website when the new site launches. For reference, documents and specifications from the Systems Committee and its working groups have been archived, and are still accessible on the member website.

Register now: Spring Member Meeting Week

Don’t forget to register now for our all- member meeting week, taking place16-20 April 2018 in San Diego, California.

All GlobalPlatform meetings will be held at the Westin San Diego, 400 West Broadway, San Diego, CA 92101. GlobalPlatform hotel room group rates are available until Thursday, 15 March. You can access a link to the hotel registration page from the member website.

Please note it is extremely important that you register your attendance for each meeting you plan to attend by Friday 30 March.

Notice of Document Archive

GlobalPlatform has recently archived the following specifications:

  • Systems Profile and Scripting Specifications and v1.0 and v1.1
  • Smart Card Management System (SCMS) Functional Requirements v4.0
  • Key Management Requirements and Systems Functional Requirements Specification v1.0

When a document is archived, maintenance efforts (FAQ, errata, test, training) or related certifications are no longer supported by the organization.

GlobalPlatform has defined a new specification that enables mobile network operators (MNOs) to easily access sensitive functions of the mobile device operating system.
