April 2020 Newsletter

Letter from GlobalPlatform’s Executive Director

Welcome to the April edition of the GlobalPlatform member newsletter.

I would like to thank our members for their continued dedication, collaboration and contributions as we work through this unusual and difficult period. We are committed to following guidance from the World Health Organisation regarding the Covid-19 outbreak and we wish all our members and their families the best of health.

With this in mind, we took the decision to cancel our March Spring Meetings in Austin, Texas. Many of the meetings are going ahead virtually and we would like to thank our committee chairs and task force leaders for their continued work in these difficult times.

Elsewhere in the world of GlobalPlatform, we previewed our work on the SESIP evaluation methodology by hosting a live webinar to explain how the methodology addresses the challenges facing IoT security implementation and evaluation. The member only version of the webinar, posted in the members-only website, includes a Q&A session. A second version of the webinar without the Q&A session has been made available to the general public and is now posted on GlobalPlatform.org.

As always, we are available as a resource to support you in any way. Please don’t hesitate to contact us directly.

Take a Look at the new SESIP Webpage

This month saw GlobalPlatform ‘go live’ with its work on the
Security Evaluation Standard for IoT Platforms (SESIP) methodology.

SESIP is a common, optimized approach for evaluating whether the security of connected devices meets the specific needs and challenges of the IoT ecosystem.

GlobalPlatform welcomes contributions and engagement from certification bodies and laboratories to ensure comparable evaluations across IoT implementations.

SESIP Webinar

For anyone who missed it, you can now view our SESIP webinar on both the member and public websites.

In the webinar, our Technical Director, Gil Bernabeu is joined by members Carlos Serratos (Brightsight) and Eve Atallah (NXP). These experts explore how SESIP will provide the IoT ecosystem with a standardized methodology for ensuring that connected products meet the specific compliance, security, privacy and scalability challenges of an ever-evolving ecosystem.

Some Spring Meetings went ahead virtually

In light of the outbreak of Covid-19, GlobalPlatform took the decision to cancel our scheduled Spring Meetings in Austin, Texas, and instead host some of the Meetings virtually.

This is not a decision GlobalPlatform took lightly and it is the first time we have cancelled a bi-annual meeting in 20 years. But, like many other industry organizations and member companies, the decision was made with the safety of our staff, members and partners in mind.

With good fortune, we very much hope to greet you at our Fall all-member meetings, scheduled to take place in Athens, Greece the week of 16 November.

As we continue to drive our work virtually, please check the member calendar for details about upcoming calls and other important information related to GlobalPlatform.
