GlobalPlatform Signs MOU With Beijing National Financial Technology Certification Center to Advance IoT Security Certification in China
November 6, 2024 – GlobalPlatform, the global organization standardizing secure digital services and devices, today announced it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the National Financial Technology Certification Center (NFTC) in Beijing. This strategic partnership marks an important step forward in advancing the deployment of GlobalPlatform technologies in China and bringing the Security Evaluation Standard for IoT Platforms (SESIP) to the Chinese ecosystem.
By establishing a strong SESIP certification framework in China, GlobalPlatform will enhance confidence in the rapidly expanding Internet of Things (IoT) device market. Under the terms of the MOU, NFTC will adopt SESIP and begin the process of becoming a SESIP Certification Body (CB) to address the unique needs of the Chinese market while aligning with global standards. This development reflects GlobalPlatform’s commitment to working closely with trusted partners to expand the SESIP certification model worldwide.
The global IoT market is valued at $277 billion dollars and China accounts for 18% of global IoT revenue.1 This reinforces the importance of China within the IoT ecosystem and further demonstrates the value of supporting the security of connected devices.
“With this MOU, we are proud to take the next step in deploying standardized security evaluation in the global IoT ecosystem. By partnering with NFTC, we are establishing a strong SESIP presence in China and extending our mission to drive secure technology worldwide,” said Ana Tavares Lattibeaudiere, Executive Director of GlobalPlatform. “This partnership highlights our shared commitment to building a safe, interoperable, and sustainable IoT environment in Asia-Pacific, in alignment with other regions around the world.”
“Amidst the rapid growth of the Internet of Things, security is more critical than ever. The GlobalPlatform SESIP methodology provides essential value in enhancing global IoT security,” stated Zhen Li, Vice President of NFTC. “Our collaboration with GlobalPlatform will better facilitate the alignment of China and the broader Asia-Pacific region with international standards, supporting the secure development of the information technology industry and sharing critical insights from the Chinese market with the global ecosystem.”
