Building Trust at Scale: GlobalPlatform to Lead Digital Identity Sessions at GDC25
GlobalPlatform is set to play a leading role at the Global Digital Collaboration Conference 2025 (GC25), taking place July 1–2 in Geneva, Switzerland. This event brings together governments, technology leaders, regulators, and standards organizations to align efforts around global digital trust, security, and interoperability—setting the critical foundations for a secure digital economy.
The conference covers a wide range of topics related to digital identity, including wallets, verifiable credentials, trust frameworks, technical standards, and regulatory issues. Key focus areas include health and educational credentials, as well as cross-border interoperability.
GlobalPlatform technologies already support billions of secure elements (SEs) worldwide—from smartphones and smartcards to eSIMs and embedded secure elements (eSEs). At GC25, GlobalPlatform will share its expertise in helping ecosystem stakeholders build trusted digital services that are secure by design, private by default, and interoperable across borders and platforms.
As a co-organizer of four sessions at GC25, GlobalPlatform is helping to lead critical conversations on the future of digital wallets, security certification, and global interoperability. These sessions are:
Protecting the Wallet – How Much Security is Enough?
This panel will explore the long-term vision for high-security digital wallets and why strong user control and offline support are essential. Speakers will examine the consequences of insufficient security—such as identity theft and erosion of public trust—and how certification frameworks are critical to building confidence in eIDAS 2.0-compliant wallets.
Speakers include Fabien Deboyser (GlobalPlatform), Felix Bleckmann (BSI), Marie Austenaa (Visa) and Michael McCaskill (AAMVA).
GlobalPlatform Technologies for Wallets
This technical session will explore how SEs—already standardized and certified by GlobalPlatform—can serve as trusted platforms for deploying EU Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallets. Discussion will focus on how SE-based solutions support offline use cases, enhance security, and streamline deployment across diverse smartphone ecosystems.
Speakers include Gil Bernabeu (GlobalPlatform) and Mike Bergmann (BSI).
Global Wallet Platform Requirements
Co-organized with the OpenWallet Foundation, this open discussion will gather requirements for secure, privacy-preserving, and interoperable wallet platforms. Topics will range from biometric hardware and crypto algorithms to NFC APIs, OS/browser interfaces, and governance. A key goal: give platform providers a forum to share roadmaps and align with the broader ecosystem.
Speakers include Siddarth Pandit (Google) and Dawid Wroblewski (Samsung).
Interoperability for Digital Identity Solutions: Ensuring Trust Through Testing
GlobalPlatform joins the OWF and the OpenID Foundation to explore how governance models, standards, and testing tools can ensure seamless interoperability of digital identity solutions worldwide. Expect insights into trust frameworks, technical challenges, and how to make credentials—like mobile driver’s licenses (mDLs)—work across borders.
Speakers include Gaurav Manchanda (GlobalPlatform), Steve Pannifer (Fime), Torsten Lodderstedt (SPRIND), Joseph Henan (OpenID Foundation), and Chris Goh (Austroads).

Be Part of the Conversation at GDC25
Through these sessions, GlobalPlatform will highlight how secure components, standardized APIs, and robust certification schemes form the technical backbone of the next generation of trusted digital identity. As digital wallets become the foundation for secure public and private services, GlobalPlatform’s leadership in scalable, certified, and interoperable technologies will help ensure security, privacy, and user control are accessible to all.
