GlobalPlatform Allows Non-Members To Purchase Restricted Specifications and Guidelines

20 February 2008 – GlobalPlatform, the international smart card specifications body, has extended public access to previously restrictedGlobalPlatform Card Specifications and documentation. Until now, the GlobalPlatform Card version (v)2.1.1 to v2.2 Mapping Guidelines of Existing v2.1.1 Implementations and the GlobalPlatform Card Benchmark v1.0 Specifications could only be accessed by GlobalPlatform member organizations, however they are now available to non-member entities wishing to purchase them through the GlobalPlatform website – www.globalplatform.org

Bob Beer, Chairman of GlobalPlatform and Vice President of Business Development at Datacard Group, comments: “The GlobalPlatform membership took the decision to release select technical documents, previously reserved for members, for purchase by the large user community and general public in light of the rapid global growth of GlobalPlatform technology and exponential increase in the number of implementations. It was felt that this approach would best serve the needs of worldwide markets and would help to ease and further the ongoing and widespread implementation of GlobalPlatform’s Specifications.”

The documents which are now available to purchase are:

  • The GlobalPlatform Card v2.1.1 to v2.2 Mapping Guidelines of Existing v2.1.1 Implementations – This document provides implementation guidelines for mapping a card implementation based on the Card Specification v2.1.1 to a GlobalPlatform card compliant to v2.2. The guidelines define card configurations (i.e. subsets of Card Specification features) and describe implementations based on Java Card specifications.
  • The GlobalPlatform Card Benchmark v1.0 Specifications – These specifications and the corresponding sample code are intended to enable performance evaluation with respect to execution speed and certain implementation characteristics. They may be used during product development itself or for final product evaluation by card issuers or application providers.

The documents are priced at US $995 and US $495 respectively and further information can be found at https://globalplatform.wpengine.com/specificationview.asp?id=card
