ARM Demonstrates its Commitment to a Standardized Security Infrastructure by Joining GlobalPlatform

26 January 2010 – GlobalPlatform the international smart card specification body, today announced that ARM has joined the group as a Participating Member.  The move demonstrates ARM's commitment to help standardize the security infrastructure for mobile financial transactions, and other security orientated applications such as Pay-TV and secured communications.

ARM designs the technology behind advanced digital products, from wireless, networking and consumer entertainment solutions to imaging, automotive, security and storage devices.  It joins GlobalPlatform as a Participating Member to contribute to the work of the Device Committee.  ARM expertise will assist this group in furthering its work to define an open security architecture and software framework for wireless and multi-application secure devices.

ARM will also join the 45 other GlobalPlatform member companies that have active representation on the association's Mobile Task Force, which contributes to the development of mobile telecommunications standards worldwide.  A further member privilege for ARM includes attendance at the GlobalPlatform Advisory Council; a forum for open dialogue between members, the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee on priority issues.

Ian Drew, Executive Vice President, Marketing at ARM comments: "With ARM processors at the heart of an ever growing number of consumer devices it is important that we participate in driving the standardization of software application programming interfaces. By contributing to the advancement of GlobalPlatform technology, we can help to reduce the burden on our silicon partners and software developers, and ensure a faster time to market for the next generation of feature-rich, security–sensitive connected devices."

Kevin Gillick, Executive Director of GlobalPlatform, adds: "ARM is a very welcome addition to the GlobalPlatform membership.  Its participation and shared expertise in the GlobalPlatform Device Committee and Mobile Task Force will add value to these groups' work efforts and strengthen the visibility of GlobalPlatform Specifications as a relevant and future-proof technology option for smart devices."
