In October 2016, GlobalPlatform hosted its fourth annual Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) Conference, the industry’s only event focused on the TEE. GlobalPlatform interviewed a number of the key speakers to get their insights on topics such as developing for TEE, how TEE can protect premium content and cryptocurrencies, the impact of a large-scale internet of things (IoT) hack, and much more. December 2016 – TEE Conference Highlights

Watch highlights from GlobalPlatform's 4th annual Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) Conference in Oct 2016. This is the industry's only TEE event and showcases the latest developments, demos, and new use cases.

 

 

November 2016 – The GlobalPlatform Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) Hackathon: code and compete for connected device security

The GlobalPlatform Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) Hackathon attracted over 60 students and developers from the internet of things (IoT), security, and fintech sectors to apply their best ideas to the TEE ecosystem. Developers were invited to compete for cash prizes and the chance to present their trusted applications to TEE experts at the GlobalPlatform TEE Conference. 12 applications and projects were developed, with hardware provided by Sequitur Labs, and the top 3 projects were rewarded with cash prizes by Samsung.

 

 

November 2016 – GlobalPlatform Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) Hackathon webinar series

As part of the 2016 TEE Hackathon, GlobalPlatform ran a series of webinars introducing the Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) to developers. They feature experts from Trustonic, Sequitur Labs and GlobalPlatform discussing the basics of TEE technology including:

  • An introduction to TEE technology
  • Working with TEE-based hardware
  • An IoT use case

November 2016 – Hank Chavers discusses IoT security during the virtual ‘IoT – With The Best’ Conference

GlobalPlatform’s Technical Program Manager, Hank Chavers, joined a number of esteemed IoT experts to participate in the virtual ‘IoT – With the Best’ Conference on 29 October 2016. During his presentation ‘Securing the Internet of Things: Privacy, Authentication and Trust for Billions of Things’ Hank provides an insight into IoT security use cases, the role of the Trusted Execution Environment and an explanation of a trusted application manager.

 

 

September 2016 – Webinar with GSMA: The Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) Creating a Security Baseline for Connected Devices

GlobalPlatform recently launched Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) Security Certification Scheme. The scheme helps protect and accelerate the deployment of value added mobile services. It also ensures security while retaining a rich user experience.

The webinar provides insight into:

  • GlobalPlatform's role in certifying TEE products
  • The benefits of certification for mobile operators and the telecom community
  • The attack criteria used by the scheme

June 2016 - GlobalPlatform webinar: The Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) Creating a Security Baseline for Connected Devices

On Tuesday 07 June GlobalPlatform hosted a free-to-attend webinar. The session, delivered by leading experts from GlobalPlatform, explored how the association’s TEE Security Certification Scheme helps protect, ease and accelerate the deployment of value added mobile services.

The webinar is of value to all stakeholders in the connected device ecosystem, including service providers, software vendors, device manufacturers, platform providers, OEMs, mobile network operators and security evaluation laboratories.





June 2016 - GlobalPlatform Mobile Authentication Workshop

On Monday 18 April in San Francisco, California, GlobalPlatform hosted a half-day workshop on new mobile authentication use cases and the impact of biometrics in authentication. The workshop featured guest speakers from Nok Nok Labs on behalf of the FIDO Alliance, Visa on behalf of EMVCo, GSMA, MIDAS, NIST, Synaptics, Verizon Wireless and more. GlobalPlatform Mobile Authentication Workshop Round Up. This round up provides an insight into discussions from the day and what those who attended took away from the workshop.

Don Felton, Chair of the GlobalPlatform TEE Specifications Working Group, explains how the trusted user interface (TUI) has developed and its benefits for mobile authentication and biometrics.

January 2016 - China Mobile Demonstrates TEE Use Case

In this video, GlobalPlatform Full Member, China Mobile, demonstrates how a trusted execution environment (TEE) can be dynamically initialized using generic bootstrapping architecture (GBA) technology. The video shows the initialization process, and how the device interacts with a GBA server and a TEE management platform. Once the procedure is complete, the TEE can be managed by the user.

On 13 October, GlobalPlatform hosted its third annual trusted execution environment (TEE) conference in Santa Clara. At the event, GlobalPlatform spoke to a number of speakers and delegates to get their thoughts on the importance of standardization, TEE security certification, the future of the TEE, and their personal highlights from the conference. Secure ID News has recorded a podcast with GlobalPlatform’s Technical Director, Gil Bernabeu. In the podcast Gil discusses identity use cases for the trusted execution environment (TEE), focusing particularly on its critical role in ensuring the security and interoperability of biometric authentication solutions. He also offers an overview of the TEE certification process, and discusses the role of the Security Evaluation Secretariat in promoting a globally interoperable mobile ecosystem that will benefit stakeholders across the TEE ecosystem.

At the inaugural HCE Summit, which took place in London, UK, Gil Bernabeu presented to delegates attending the SIMalliance ‘Evaluating Security Strategies: The Role of the SE in the Evolving HCE Landscape’ workshop, to provide an introduction to GlobalPlatform's ‘End-to-End Simplified Service Management Framework v1.0’ for mobile payment. Within the presentation, Gil offers an overview of the benefits this important document will bring to the market.

April 2014 – Listen to Kevin Gillick, Executive Director of GlobalPlatform, deliver a presentation at RSA USA

At the RSA USA 2014 Conference in San Francisco, Kevin delivered a presentation focusing on 'Integrating Any Smartphone Into Your Mobile ID Strategy'. Within the presentation, Kevin discusses the increasing smartphone threat landscape, the three mobile environments that GlobalPlatform Specifications support (rich operating system, trusted execution environment and secure element) and the association’s ongoing standardization work.

December 2013 – Listen to Gil Bernabeu, Technical Director of GlobalPlatform, discussing bring your own device (BYOD) as a use case for GlobalPlatform Specifications

Gil Bernabeu spoke with the organizers of the Enterprise Mobility: BYOD Conference to provide an introduction to GlobalPlatform and its involvement in the BYOD space and outline the need for specifications in the enterprise mobility industry. Gil discusses the association's three 'technologies', highlighting how they can be used to enhance security for BYOD environments before addressing the future of standardization in the BYOD industry.

The SD Association has created a short video which aims to communicate the notion of a consumer-centric vs. issuer-centric service model based on GlobalPlatform's white paper 'A New Model: The Consumer-Centric Model and How it Applies to the Mobile Ecosystem'. The animation supports the messaging and education of this model utilizing the smart microSD's secure element.
