IoT Task Force

The IoT Task Force is co-chaired by Nils Gerhardt from G+D Mobile Security and Sebastian Hans from Oracle. All GlobalPlatform members are eligible to participate in this group.

The IoT Task Force identifies, defines and evaluates the business and technical requirements of existing and emerging secure services to best support IoT products in an increasingly connected world.

Objectives

The IoT Task Force works to:

  • Gather industry intelligence to understand business requirements from the following sectors and consumer/industrial products:
    • Smartphone and tablets
    • Wearables
    • Gaming
    • Automobile external information exchange (infotainment etc.)
    • Automobile critical systems, internal ECUs (Electronic Control Units)
    • Products in smart homes.
    • Heating, ventilation and air conditioning
    • Industrial controls / proximity security
    • Power distribution and management, smart grids
    • Health and medical equipment
    • Manufacturing equipment, smart factory
  • Promote the use of GlobalPlatform technology and specifications within relevant markets.
  • Promote the GlobalPlatform IoT initiative IoTopia and SESIP within relevant markets.
  • Collaborate with industry partners including the Car Connectivity Consortium, ETSI, GSMA, IoT Connectivity Alliance (ICA), Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC), NFC Forum, NIST, Open Mobile Alliance, oneM2M, SIMalliance , and Trusted Platform Consortium.

Current Priorities

  • Development of white papers on IoT security, development / deployment and certification.
  • Drive forward GlobalPlatform secure component technologies for IoT.
  • Contribute to secure device on boarding deployment across markets.
  • Continue to create liaisons with industrial organizations.

Nils Gerhardt

IoT Task Force Co-Chair

G+D Mobile Security

Mr. Gerhardt is GlobalPlatform’s Chairman and also serves as Co-Chair of the IoT Task Force. Mr. Gerhardt joined Giesecke & Devrient MS (G+D MS) in 2004, and as Group VP and head of product and project management, production IT and professional services for the region AMERICAS, has global product responsibility for financial institutions. Within this role he oversees product and project management, including product marketing and certification.

Mr. Gerhardt joined the GlobalPlatform Board of Directors in 2015 and also serves as Co-Chair of the IoT Task Force.

Sebastian Hans

IoT Task Force Co-Chair

Oracle

Mr. Hans currently serves as Principal Member of Technical Staff at Oracle, previously Sun Microsystems Inc., where he is responsible for all smart card standardization activities with a strong focus on SIM and UICC technology. While at Sun Microsystems Inc, Mr. Hans has also headed up business development within the telecommunications market and has driven advanced pilot projects for the deployment of Java Card in the banking, insurance and mobile communication markets. Mr. Hans represents Sun Microsystems Inc. in ETSI SCP, 3GPP, OMA and is the Vice Chair of ETSI SCP TEC.

Mr. Hans serves as GlobalPlatform Board Director and Co-Chair of the IoT Task Force.
